What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Acts 16:27–31 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Make It Plain

The Gospel ought to be plain, plain to warn people of their danger. Plain that they might seek the safety needed, plain because the danger is certain and plain that both he who takes refuge and he who gives the law should be just.

Come Boldly

“Come Boldly unto the throne of grace” says the author, Christ our high priest, not ignorant to our infirmities, encourages us to come to him, and to come to him boldly.

Come Unto Me

The greatest joy of all is having the rest and comfort of Christ during times of fear and concern. “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” says the Lord. In just such a way does the passage before us speech respecting what has occurred with Israel and his fall respecting his rejection of the long-awaited messiah. Israel made a way for the gentile, “through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles”. (Rom 11:11)

Salvation by Works or Faith?

What Saith The Scripture? Salvation, is it by works or by faith? This is the question addressed by Paul in this chapter and it is curious that there remains still so much confusion. The answer is plain, but many have sought to confuse the words in the chapter to make them not mean precisely what they say. What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he…

Look Unto Me

Look unto me “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” Isa 45:22 Introduction: Today’s reading and in fact the whole of chapter 45 of Isaiah is quite remarkable. For one thing it demonstrates God’s sovereign plan for Israel. In verse 1, we see king Cyrus mentioned here in scripture some 200 years or more before the event foretold. “Thus saith the LORD to his anointed,…
