“Make me to go in the path of thy commandments;
For therein do I delight”
(Ps 119:35)
What an infinite joy it would be to never be able to sin against the Lord, to indeed “go in the path of his commandments”, this truly is the secret to lasting joy and happiness. In truth, to those who are born again, those who have been given a new heart where they desire to follow and to obey the commandments of the Lord, it is the first foundation of happiness, “Where there is no vision the people perish, but he that keepeth the Law, happy is he” (Prov 29:18). It is the keeping of the law that brings us delight.
But we have a “… flesh [That] lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that [we] cannot do the things that [we] would.” (Gal 5:17). And knowing this makes it ever more important that we would seek the Lord and pray for his ability and to “Make me to go in the path of thy commandments;” and we have our reason; “For therein do I delight”.
